I know. It’s kinda weird for someone who has spent her entire career writing nonfiction to suddenly pivot into fantasy and romance. But what can I say? I have a complicated brain. I’ve always loved the way that storytelling has brought me closer to people. My stories about travel, marriage, the struggles of living abroad, and being a human in the world has given me so much. It’s connected me to people across the globe who can relate, who are living similar lives, or experienced similar hardships or heartache. I will never stop telling real stories, my stories, if it means creating community, and making friends all over the world who make me, and each other, feel less alone.
And? And I’ve read fiction, science fiction, and fantasy for most of my life. Anne Rice and Kurt Vonnegut got me through high school. Then I took a long break. During the pandemic, I couldn’t get myself to write about real life because I was barely surviving it. The year after was even worse as my depression and anxiety got really, really, bad. So I escaped. One day, I got an idea for a vampire novel while sitting on my porch. I wrote down the idea and that night began writing it. Soon, I’d have the first draft of my very first work of fiction. And now, it’s coming into the world this October. I am very excited, and really nervous, too. I hope that you like it. And just like with the real stories, I hope we can create a community of magic, of wonder, of pretend.
If you’re new here and wondering what I’m going on about, fair. I am unhinged and it’s the middle of the night. Skip all of this and go straight to this part:
