Listen, I get it, I’m like that weird aunt at this point who you don’t hear from until Thankgiving rolls around and she shows up looking as unhinged as ever to share her political hot-takes over mashed potatoes. It’s not because I want to be MIA all the time, it’s just because I am an anxiety-ridden mess with an endless to-do list and shit organizational skills. BUT, it’s ALSO because I’ve been writing BOOKS.
What kind of books? Ones that I wanted to read. I’ve always loved the vampire genre, movies, t.v. shows, books, all of it. In fact, my best friend of decades STILL teases me because she would come over to my house to ask me to hang out and I would tell her NO because I was watching BUFFY. So she’d plant her teenage ass in the yard and wait for it to end so I’d leave…begrudgingly.
After I had my kiddo, I rewatched the Vampire Diaries and thought to myself, you know, this is so relatable if you’re nineteen. And I felt depressed and alone and really wanted something that was both fantastical and relatable for a thirty-plus woman, so I wrote it. Slowly. And cried a lot. But years later, here we are: House of Secrets, the vampire series for women who grew up with Twighlight and Vampire Diaries and all of those books but are adults, often parents, looking to be swept away. I also wanted to write about about magic, and how I don’t think that women don’t have to lose their fire or their passion as they evolve in life. At any age, you can change, you can bring about change, you can BURN THE WORLD DOWN AND START OVER. And I wanted to honor mothers, and the absolute soul-crushing love and the murderous need to protect we balance inside of ourselves. It has action, fighting, spice, my very shitty sense of humor, VAMPIRES, magic, motherhood, sisters, divorce, grief, love, SECRETS, a nod to Rome and Persia, and the emotionality that is required anytime we get real about adulthood.
House of Secrets isn’t just about fangs and bangs (though there’s plenty of that). It dives into themes of empowerment, self-discovery, and the kind of secrets that can turn your suburban life upside down. Think True Blood meets Practical Magic, with a hefty dose of humor and a sprinkle of chaos—because I wrote it, and have you met me?
If it sounds like something you’d like, you can preorder the ebook now for $9.99 or grab the paperback on October 22, 2024, for $18.99.
